The client modloader and how to install it.

Post by Iolo » Tue Sep 05, 2017 8:35 am

The client mod loader is a piece of software that allows programmers to change the Wurm client.

For Mystic Highlands specifically, you may want to install the mod loader to be able to see the in-game map. In addition, if you want to use the Live Map Mod, you will also need this software for that mod to work.
You don't need the mod loader or any mods to enjoy Mystic Highlands, but if you want an enhanced experience, here's what to do.

Installing the mod loader requires you to download it first. To make this process easier, I've created a package with all the necessary files, which you can download here.
If you also like to include the Live Map (see info below), you can alternatively download this package.
After downloading the zip file, open it with an unarchiver program. (7-zip, winrar)

Next we need to find the Wurm Unlimited folder on your hard drive. Its standard location is:
  • Windows : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Wurm Unlimited\WurmLauncher\
  • MacOSX : (please let me know)
  • Linux : ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Wurm\ Unlimited/WurmLauncher/
Make sure you see the WurmLauncher executable, to make sure you're in the correct folder.

Go back to the window with the opened archive, select all files and folders in it, then drag and drop these files to your Wurm Unlimited folder. Make sure not to drag the files into a sub-folder.
If everything has gone right, the Wurm Unlimited folder should contain quite a few new files.
Some of these are: modlauncher.jar, patcher.jar and a new folder called mods.

The final step is installing the client mod loader.
  • Windows : run patcher.bat
  • MacOSX & Linux : mark patcher.sh as executable, then run it.
Keep in mind, when Wurm Unlimited is updated through Steam, you will have to reapply the last step by running patcher.bat or patcher.sh.
When all of these steps are completed you can start Wurm Unlimited just as you have always done.

Note: If you already have the client mod loader installed, please make sure you have the custommap and serverpacks-client -mods installed. They need to have their own subfolder inside the mods/ folder in the Wurm Unlimited installation location.
These mods can be downloaded separately here.

How to install the (optional) livemap mod.
The livemap is an in-game modification that displays a live minimap on your HUD. It can be toggled on or off.
To install this mod, first download it here.
The next few steps are very similar as installing the mod loader.
  • Open the downloaded zip-file with an unarchiver
  • Find your Wurm Unlimited installation folder
  • Drag & drop the mods folder from the archive to your WU folder

If you have issues installing the client mod loader or the livemap mod, please open a new topic with your specific question or issue.

Albaren created an installer for windows users. This installer will automatically put all the files in the right place. Get it here.

Changelog:
