George, Reborned

Post by George » Fri Dec 15, 2017 1:51 pm

Hi, my name is George and I'm reborned.

Once, in my previous life, I was Master shipbuilder. I made thousands and thousands of ships of all kinds, you can even imagine. But with the passage of time, that world slowly changed. Everybody there, even their cats and dogs had their own ships. There were no more single soul to buy my ships and boats. When my shipyard was full to the brim of new ships, my mastery proved to be useless. I lost the reason to live and I fell into severe depression. In that time my friends gathered together to find some solution for me. There were Wurmians of all skills, engineers with huge technology skills as well as priests with strongest magic I ever saw.

And they found it. They was able to safely split body and soul, frozen the body to preserve it, pack the soul and in form of idea send it to another world. On new world soul should find unused body and merge with it. Whole that technological and magical process they called Reborn.

They prepared their complicated ritual and only problem I had to solve was, where they would send me. I heard about place, with beautifull nature, high mountains and rich valleys. With friendly inhabitants and still a lot of wild places to explore and settle down. And what was even more interesting, there were tales about space travelers, who in ancient times had accident and crashed down somewhere in the hills there. That is perhaps reason, why this land is called Mystic Highlands. Lands, hills and mountains full of mysteries.

Now I'm here, reborned. My body is slowly adapting to former knowledges of my soul. It is hard. I know, how to do things, but my legs, my hands and fingers not. I have to relearn everything from scratch. But most complicated is language. Locals are talking in strange way. I know some their words and others words are absolutely unknown to me. Sometimes, I do not understand whole sentences. I hope, it will improve with time spent here.

I already made all most important tools. I made cart and catched horses. My searching for ancient space boat already started. First days I spent traveling around and looking for anomalies in terrain. And now I believe, I discovered important place. There are scratches and craters on side of mountain. I believe, it is the place, where ancient space travelers crash landed.

But that place is full of bears, wolves, trolls and goblins. In my past live I was used to swing few times with my magically improved huge axe and any, even strongest champion beast was downed. Now with that blunt and rusty longsword it is hard to injure even small cat. And armor? I have some leather dress, hard to even call it armor. Where is my Black Drake armor set? Well, better any leather dress and rusty sword, than being naked with empty hands. And I have all that knowledge somewhere in my head. I was decent armorer and weaponsmith. Time to revive it.

First I built small wooden house, fence plot for horses and opened mine. I feel, somewhere close to south east is hiding iron vein. Perhaps another three or four meters and I will hit that iron source. And all that mined out stone shards are useful too. It is good idea turn them into bricks to build stronger and safer house. Guard tower for accomodate one or two guards would be important too.

I need to do it all, step by step. And when ready to survive in this dangerous area, I could return to my searching quest. I think, with some archeology equipment and skills I should find some traces and remains of ancients soon. And maybe, once ... with some luck, I will learn something from that ancient travelers and I will be able to build new kind of ships - space ships ...

Now I'm pretty sure I'm searching in correct place. Today I witnessed strange time anomaly. Terrain around me returned to state 3 days ago, while structures did not changed. I never heard tales about such things. But I never heard about somebody living in place, where once crashed ship of star travelers.

I hope, such time disorder do not have bad influence on my health. But I feel fine, so perhaps not. Still it is very interesting. Strong forces of nature such as erosion more or less healed this place, but even after thousands of years time flowing here still has some issues. What a power that crash had to be, that it was able to corrupt even time flowing.

Dunno, if here remained some ship parts or at last some debrish and something from it is still buried here. It is possible, my quest has none chance to success. There is still hope. Tales were talking about star travelers crash, not about meteorite. So most probably there were some survivors, what means even something from their technology had to survive too.

Time to return into mines and open again, what was done before that time anomaly. And I hope it is not time loop :)

Nearly 3 weeks ago I had strange feeling. My inner voice told me, I should visit capital of Mystic Highlands - Safehold soon. I had purse with some coins, I wanted to deposit into bank in Safehold too. So my plan for next day was - travel to capital.

Early morning I packed supplies for the trip, jumped on my horse and and left my secure place in mountains. First I traveled to west, around Osthollow mountain and when I saw Lake Britannia on my left, I turned to south. And that was the time, I made huge mistake. Whole time I had behind me some followers, mostly trolls, huge spiders and worst of all, hell hounds. Luckily, my horse was fast enough to keep some distance from them. But northwest of lake Britannia is full of dense thorn bushes. With all that followers breathing on my back, I had not enough time to slow down to maneuver carefully between thorns. I galloped through few bushes and immediately I felt burning pain on legs, arms and body. My studded armor was badly torned and turned red from my bleeding wounds. With blessing of Vynora I saw clear path out of thorn glade, leading me into willows. Hiding bellow aged willow, I quickly bandaged worst wounds and patched my armor. This time I had good luck, one or two more thorn hits and I would be death.

Soon I found road protected by towers and rest of travel was quite and without events. In Safehold I met peoples talking about forthcoming Christmas festival. So that was the thing my inner voice was whispered about. Depositing my coins into bank I was thinking, if I should wait three days in capital and visit that festival or travel back home and return there few days later. Taking in acount, how dangerous travel home and return to festival later could be I chose to wait.

I spent in Safehold and surroundings 3 days full of repairing and improving my damaged studded armor, hunting smaller animals, cooking, mining, smithing and training with staff and bow. I had enough time to make set of decent horseshoes for my horse. Next time he will be more certain in unfriendly terrain. But most important I visited public project of building tunnel west from Safehold. Progress there was blocked by strong gold vein. I helped there a bit and gathered there enough gold ore to make chain for pendulum. One of very critical tool in wilderness far from coast. No more risky and dangerous runs to coast and back slowed down by barrels full of water.

When Christmas festival started there, a lot of inhabitants of Mystic Highlands appeared in Safehold. We were transported into festival village by Christmas magic. That mysterious snowy place was full of Christmas characters, colorfull decorations, food and voices. Something like that I have never seen before. On entrance every visitor were gifted funny red santa cap. At the stands they gave us christmas food and drinks. There were a lot of entertaiment and even some games and riddles. Not all habbits there I understood, there were some cultural differencies and language barriens, I was unable to overcome. Even so, I did not regret to spent 3 days waiting to see all these. Later Santa Claus appeared in festival village and all visitors got some present from him.

In that time I realized all work, what was waiting for me at home. It was time to return. My plan was to explore east coast by Osthollow on my way home. Now I know that was bad idea. There is road, but without towers, it is even more dangerous than virgine wilderness. Soon I discovered animals there run faster on road, while my horse is slower on paved road than on grass. Perhaps another anomaly, result of Star Travelers crash into mountain there. Beasts were beating me into my back there, until I realized I have to return back to grass. There my horse was bit faster and I had at last slim chance to survive. I hid myself into fence around teleport stone, where I was able to bandage worst wounds. Outside fence there were waiting all that mutated trolls, hell hounds and spiders. When in better shape I started my another run for life, this time to west through forrest and up to mountain. With few more wounds I runned into my secured home area. Two trolls and three hell hounds followed me to my gate and another two days I was unable to leave my place, until they wandered away. But in that time I already had builded new fountain over spring of fresh water nearly in center of my garden. Thanks to golden pendulum from public tunnel project.

Most funny thing was, what I saw on snowy cap of mountain above my place. There was that colored bubbles stream rocketing to skyes, what I saw above Santa Claus in Christmas village. So I experienced deadly travel to capital and back to visit village, placed just behind my gate. Is not that irony? But I not regret. Time spent around Safehold and on christmas event was time spent well, full of new experiences. I chose to settle down on the most mysterious place from whole Mystic Highlands.

Some days later I started to think, if I killed already enough aggressive animals and beasts to deserve the privilege to secure my place by deed granted by the king. Soon after start of application process, it was clear, I still do not have enough gathered bounty coins. But I had nearly 2 more silver coins from foraging for food and seeds in grass around my place. Time to risk another deadly run to Safehold to deposit these rare coins.

My Blood Bay colored wild horse had freshly improved horse shoes and saddle. And we spent so much time together, I would hardly call him wild horse anymore. Still far from race horse, he was experienced enough aready. This time I avoided every thorn bush and aimed for deep forests of north. My plan was to run through Knightmare castle area and then take wide berth around mountains to south. There I would find eastside of Silver Mermaid bay and road to south.

Still I had some agressive followers, but they soon lost me, while new beasts joined my unwanted escort. Somewhere north from Knightmare Castle I entered spacious meadow with some scattered willows. There I saw something unusual. It looked like heap of trash hidden in grass. I turned that way to closer explore. While closing, I recognized it. Place of tragedy, heap of death man. Damaged armor, scratched shield, sword and bones cleared by carnivores. After checking for aggressive beasts around I jumped from horseback and arranged that belongings into more neat heap. Covering body with stoneshards I noticed hellhound attracted by my activity. Time to jump on horse and continue my traveling. There were some rare and christmas coins and other interesing things. But I'm not dirthy thief to steal from corpse. And I hope other random travelers will do the same. Rest in peace, unknown hapless friend.

Entering bank in Safehold, I checked my account. I was only few copper coins short to buy smallest deed. Two or three more killed bears or one hardened lava spider more and whole this tour was not necessary. After depositing my rare coins, I had good reserve. At last, my way back home was fast and rather safe. It seemed, my traveling started to be less dangerous. But never say never. One small wrong step and things could change quickly and I would follow fate of that unknown traveler.

The same day evening I founded Alyauntes Crash Site and moved my bank account to deed token there.

Living on deed means work, work and even more work, day by day. But my mission here on Mystic Highlands is not working whole days and nights. My goal is searching for traces of Star travelers. Day I realized that I'm out of my track, I changed my daily routines. Work on fields and around horses I limited to necessary minimum. Most of my time I aimed to prospecting and mining.

I spent time with every mined out stone shard, studying its structure and every detail. With time spent between heaps of shards, I realized tiny differences in color, composition, cracks and refractive characteristics. Later I was able to guess, what was hiding behind stone wall before I mined out that wall. Distance and accuracy of my estimates was going up. Once, I realized I'm able to roughly estimate amount of shards remaining in vein. All that knowledge would help me later to find areas, where to start archeology activity.

But I hate wasting. So I was forced by my native to turn into bricks at last shards with best quality. And bricks just laying around are rather useless. So I was forced to use them in some meaningful project - guard tower. Such building is very important in wild north. Well, I still needed safe enough access to clay. I'm pretty sure, all that crocodiles, bears, hell hounds, trolls, spiders and wolfs would eat me really fast, would I be stupid enough to dismount from my favorite horse somewhere nearby north coast, where is only one clay source, I know about. To secure somehow access to that clay will be another crazy submission. But it is still far future, when I and my equipment will be much stronger than now. And once again I found myself out of track. Well, at last I improved my masonry and stonecutting skills.

Next morning I had again troll and hell hound watching my fields outside my secured yard. I had to jump on horse and lured them away. Such maneuvers are always risky. Everything else I was able to kill, one by one only, of course. But most visitors I had here were just trolls and hell hounds. Fences around my deed would be usefull. In my mine were uncovered iron vein and two sandstone veins. Their combination makes logical result - sandstone ironbars fences. Mountain touching side of deed needed some minor surface mining, but soon I was building first parts of new fence. And soon one my sandstone vein depleted. And that second one followed. There was third sandstone vein hiding behind just few meters of stone wall. I mined my way there and made crude estimate of amount. Somewhere between two and five hundres of shards. What? My plan for nicely looking sandstone deed was threatened. Time to return to drawing board and rething my architectual project.

In my mine there was hiding marble vein too. When I mined my way to snowy white vein, I checked it. Perhaps five or even more thousands of shards. Thats it, my place would turn into white flake below snowy cap of my mountain. Plans have been modified, time to mine shards and cut bricks.

One can plan, but nature takes no consideration and change all plans. Leaving mine, I saw yellow birch leafs on my fields. Autumn came to my deed. And winter would follow soon. Snowy cap of my mountain was bigger and closer, than I would like. And temperature was much closer to freezing point too. Spending so much time in mines, I did not notice, how much my surrounding changed. And winter in Mystic Highlands is not, what I was used to in my previous life. Here I heard tales about spilled water frozen before touching ground, about frozen deer in middle of jump. And worst of all, inhabitans frozen in their beds, because they forgot fuel their fireplace, before going to sleep. My house was still small. Just enough for bed, oven and few storage crates. With tentative flat roof it cannot protect me from such terrible frosts. I had blueprint for nice marble palace, but without clay, that was just plan.

Another chance to show my improvization skill. I would build just one wing of house and instead of marble walls, I would build wooden ones. Later I would replace wooden walls with marble ones and join second wing of house. Lucky, nearby birch forrest was without trolls. Perhaps, they was looking for some caves to survive winter too. The same day my ground floor was finished. Next day I finished second floor. And while trying to make third floor walls, I was able to build only very unstable walls. My carpentry skill was too low. Another unexpected change of plans. I covered whole house with wooden roof.

South of my deed is peat field. There I dug whole cart of peat. That should be enough even for two long winters. And day later everything outside was white. I started fire in my forge and oven and prepared for really long smithing and cooking session.

Winter was short, but the frost was intensive. Outside was so cold, that even wolves and bears had nothing to eat and driven by hunger, they were able to somehow found way into secured fences of my deed. Strange, I always thought that bears are spending winter in hibernation inside their lairs. Seems, their lairs were already occupied by trolls and bears were forced to survive winter outside on frosted snow. That wolves and bears made havoc between horses, so I had none other choice than finish their misery. Poor starving animals, they were nothing more than only bones and furs. Fine, I had prepared enough hay and grass for my horses.

Winter was so short, I was unable to do any significant improvement in my smithing skills. There was only time for repair and improve my tools and weapons. And I made decent pair of plate gloves. At the end of winter I returned to mine to marble vein. Temperature there was more stable and one campfire was enough to keep me warm. When I returned to surface with cart full of marble bricks, snow was gone and snowy cap of mountain was retreating back to its top.

Living on deed returned to old habits, tending of fields and horses, then work in mines. More and more often I was thinking about marble walls for my house. But there was still the same major problem - unavailable clay. One day I said to myself - enough. With 8 packs of small nails, saw, carving knife and malet I embarked on my horse and started desperate run to north coast. There I lured most dangerous animals away from clay spot. I returned there partially by swimming in sea to not drag other animals to clay. In hurry I cutted down 3 chestnuts, cutted them into logs and made shafts and planks. Once I was interrupted by hardened wolf, but he falled down rather fast. Once aproached to me troll, to check what I was doing there. But I leaded him away and returned to preparation of wooden material.

And then I was attacked by anaconda. I hate that snakes. They can approach silently, hidden in tall grass and mischievously attack without any warning. But this time that snake made mistake, trying to bite me into plate glove. His teeth creaked on metal sheet and his head slipped to grass. That mistake made me enough time to raise my shield. Next attack I was able to cover with shield and in time of third attack I had longsword in my right hand, ready to counter attack. In that time I realised, my horse is too far to embark. Surprised by attack, I dropped bridle and my horse runned few steps away. Now anaconda was between me and my horse and our fight has become rather recurring. Snake attacked, I covered with shield and counter attacked by sword. Snake was not fast enough to hit anything other than shield and I was too slow to hit him before his head retracted to his convoluted stance. Then I added one step back after every attack. This way I had bit more time to prepare and snake lost his firm stance and was forced to move closer to me and to attack without preparation. Situation turned to my advantage and I was able to cut him nearly every his attack. Bleeding, his attack was slower and weaker every time and at the end I made step forward and pin his withered head to ground. That was brutal fight. Whole my body was shaking and I noticed I had tiny bites nearly everywhere on my studded armor. Only my hands in plate gloves was fine. Seems, I was not covered by shield as well as I thought in heat of fight. Lucky these anacondas do not have poison. As shield impaired his attacks, bite wounds were just minor. Without shield, bites in full force into weaker studded armor would lead to nasty wounds.

Quickly I finished planks and shafts and made crude wooden fence around part of clay spot. That way I had at last partially protected area. It will not stop another anaconda, but this snake was first one, I saw on Mystic Highlands. And I would not be upset, if it was last one as well. From rest of beasts I would be more or less safe there. Half of my clay problem was solved. Now that second part. How to transport tons of clay to my deed. Of course not on horse. Large cart has decent capacity. But large cart is slower than horse and slower than hell hounds, wolves and spiders. And there are hundreds of these beasts lurking between north coast and my deed. It would be dangerous race. I would need to be prepared to jump from cart to horse, to lure beasts away from cart and then to return onto cart and to continue journey through dangerous area. Dunno how many times I would need to repeat such risky maneuver.

As time passes, majority of my house and fences around deed was rebuilded into marble ones. But again my supply of clay is going low. Soon I would need to do another risky run to north coast and back. I was not there so long time, I think, secure fences around clay plot will be gone already. And this time, it is even worse. I heard rumors abour black drakeling wandering in that area. For next weekend there is planned hunt to eliminate that menace. Pity I can't join this hunt. My fighting skills are still too low to dare fight with drake and my equipment is only acceptable quality. I'm severely limited by quality of my iron source. But I can see light in darkness already. My excelent prospecting helped me with localization of very good quality iron vein. I need to uncover another eight or ten meters of stone walls in my mine. Unfortunately, there is never enough time to do all work that is needed.

There is hope, my time press situation may improve now. Some time ago I spread message between my old friends, that I'm looking for help and companion. And few days ago arrived fine friend from my former world. Seems, reborning process is now publicly available there. She is oriented more to nature than me. She likes working around fields, horses and cows, while I have more time for mining, wood, metal and stone crafting and building. And most important, she is pretty good in kitchen. She is serving whole palette of meals, I never even heard about, like pizzas, cakes, sausages, rizoto and much more. I do not even remember names of all that tasty meals, I had in last days.

As always, it is at some price. She is young and pretty women. And as such she can't live in crude room, what looks more like storage. There is need for new furniture, decoration, flowers. That is, why my fine carpentry was forced to improve to made at last basic furniture. My house, ehm, I mean our house turned from dark workshop into more neat place. Changing wooden walls into marble ones helped to more clean feeling too. And if I will ever feel, it is too much clean and cultural for my crude soul, I could build dwarven house down in mines. Till now I enjoy new companion, chance to talk with someone in my native language and eating great meals.

Nothing good lasts forever. One day she just vanished and I never saw her again. Only proofs, she was there are furniture in rooms, planters with flowers everywhere and rare pickaxe with her name carved on handle. Long time I was sad, but now I'm fine and I'm able to write notes to my diary again.

I finished and many times improved my full plate armor set. Now it is in decent quality. I painted it to bright red and it looks pretty cool. From longsword and shield I switched to two hand huge axe. It is slower, worse in parrying, but when it hit, it hits deadly hard. Only beasts, I should be carefull playing with are trolls. I can kill them too, but sometimes I need to retreat and heal myself before I'm able to finish them. I have to admit, quality of my weapons is still bit lower than decent. Weapon smithing is art really hard and slow to learn. But my blacksmithing, armorsmithing and mining mades quite good progress.

Some time ago joined Vynora priest my place. She is quiet, mostly it is hard even notice, she is around. She spends most time in prayers with small breaks for tending fields and horses. But I feel her power is growing. Not long ago, I fighted champion brown bear near fences of our deed, while she ran outside and pinned that poor bear to the ground by series of ice shards. That was absurdly unbelievable view. For some time I was stunned, till I noticed, she was bandaging my bad and medium wounds.

Our house went through a transformation too. There are five living rooms, huge working hall with auxility storage room, two levels of balcony and base level of observation tower now. I still missing skill for another two levels of tower to finish my current version of this house project. Second house we have undergound and it is used as main storage. That dark underground place now looks more like stadium than mines with its high ceilings and spacious area. Still there are tons of more mining before it will look as I would like it.

Oh, I nearly forgot. We have another new inhabitant. Young hunter and forester. His first training days he spent as miner helper and carpenter. Then he moved outside deed and cutted out all thorns and other useless bushes around. Now our surrounding is clean with only grape plants everywhere. With bushes he cleared one by one all aggresssive animals too. Now we can meet there only stray wolf or bear from time to time. He do not like heavy armor, so I teached him, how to make and improve leather and studded armor and he is now already much better in leatherworking than me. We made together some excursions further away. I was looking for archaeology fragments or digging clay, while he was hunting around. With his hard work we have access to decent quality wood of most kinds and that means I have a lot of work with improving all wooden equipment and furniture we have.

And my quest? I have one living room full of historical fragments of all kinds. From pieces of statues to parts of tools, weapons and different kinds of materials. I already discovered one alloy, which I saw never before. But it is hard to tell from where it origin. I'm still as far from traces of space travelers as I was in the beginning, but who know, one day, perhaps.
